With Socceroos qualifying for World Cup, Tom Rogic will want to sort out his club football asap

Tom Rogic is in talks with Indonesian side Persija Jakarta as he looks to find a new employer post-Celtic. The modern Celtic great ended his affiliation with the club after nine years in the hoops. Now the playmaker is looking to perhaps join a club side in Asia, according to reports.

Scottish Daily Express report that the Aussie could make the move to Liga 1 with Jakarta after his emotional parting with Celtic Park. Rogic nearly moved to Qatar last year when Neil Lennon was in charge – with the view that he was finished in a Celtic shirt.

It was not to be however, as Ange Postecoglou found a way to get the best out of the big man and managed to get him back to his best; menacing, delectable on the half-turn and exuding class, Tom looked sensational at times this year again, with his goal at Tannadice against Dundee United in December a particular highlight from the previous campaign.

A move to Asia would make sense for Rogic if he wishes to play international football into his thirties, with the travelling time alone and the unenviable commute to help his native land becoming more and more draining. The injuries were also a major issue with the Wizard of Oz during his time at Parkhead, causing him to miss countless minutes of football.

Hopefully Tom finds what he’s looking for as he moves into his prime years. He will always hold a special place in the hearts and memories of all Celtic supporters, but particularly those of a certain age. His skill and technique were an utter joy to watch at times when he was in full flow. He will be sadly missed.

Last night the Socceroos qualified for the World Cup in Qatar, winning a penalty shoot-out against Peru. Rogic had dropped out of the Australia squad for personal reasons but will now be desperate to sort out his club football in order to make sure of his place on the plane heading to the World Cup later this year.

About Author

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
