Wow! Appreciate this! This is history, this is phenomenal, this is CELTIC

CELTIC made history at Hampden today by completing the remarkable and unique achievement of winning back to back trebles.

Earlier in the week Brendan Rodgers flew down to London to explain to Chelsea that he couldn’t play the highly rated Charly Musonda because of  the form that Callum McGregor has been in.

Before Rodgers arrived McGregor was the target of the boo boys, along with James Forrest. But it is changed days for both these home grown talents and today McGregor’s action backed up his manager’s words, scoring one of the finest Scottish Cup Final goals you’ll ever see.

Motherwell offered nothing but snorters and aggression, taking turns to put in late challenges and target specific Celtic players. Kieran Tierney could have been off to hospital for the second Scottish Cup Final in a row, such was the punishment he was taking.

But Celtic’s answer was to score again – this time through Olivier Ntcham whose strike from the edge of the box found the corner of the net. It was effectively game over. This Motherwell team were never going to overturn that kind of deficit.

To be fair they tried in the second half and Craig Gordon was called into action, making one save of note. They also smashed a free kick off the cross bar but there were plenty more moments at the other end in a goalless second period.

Tom Rogic oozed class all afternoon but made way for the more direct running offered by Stuart Armstrong and Motherwell’s panto villain Scotty Sinclair came on for Jamesy Forrest. It would have been sweet if he took his chance in the closing moments.

Celtic saw our stoppage time with a short corner in front of the Celtic fans and when Kevin Clancy blew the final whistle Scottish football had its first ever double treble winners.

Kieran Tierney headed into the crowd to get his megaphone and went back to pick up a big banner which he got the players – with some difficulty it has to be noted – to unravel and display the right way around.

It said Double Treble Winners.

The Sponsors gave the man of the Match to Moussa Dembele and while it’s hard to argue with them, we’d probably have opted for Callum. But it matters not, history has been made by Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic – legends the lot of them!

Have you got one of these? Beautiful Sunday should be celebrated all summer long…

The latest podcast is out today- it’s part 2 of the brilliant interview with Celtic’s SLO John Paul Taylor where he selects the games and the soundtracks of his own personal Celtic journey. Loved his memories of the 4-2 game in the first part of his interview. Here’s the latest instalment from the UK’s Football podcast of the year…
