Yang Hyun-jun in Celtic transfer doubt as Gangwon play hardball over exit

Reported Celtic transfer target, Yang Hyun-jun has confessed to having doubts over whether or not a move to the Scottish Premiership Champions will materialise in the next few weeks.

The Gangwon FC winger has been tracked by the Parkhead club for some time now and although a fee is reputed to have been agreed at first between the two clubs, the K-League side don’t want to let him leave until January.

That has not been received well on the player’s side at all, as he has already been denied the chance to make the leap abroad to the MLS with Minnesota before the Celtic bid which has now left him considerably frustrated. His club are said to be in discussion with the Parkhead powerbrokers but are still reluctant to release the player from his contract at this point as they are enmeshed in a relegation battle.

With Celtic keen for another winger to join the ranks – particularly after losing Jota recently – the pressing need for wing additions is obvious. Despite this, Yang has admitted to being concerned that the Scottish side might turn their attentions’ elsewhere if the negotiations with his current employers rumbles on any further. As reported by Football Scotland, he said: “Celtic won’t wait forever. I want to go so much that I think I have to try.”

However, the Korean outfit’s CEO, Kim Byung-ji sounded rather optimistic that a resolution could be found regarding the current impasse all parties find themselves in. He said, via Football Scotland: “A transfer can be made even in the summer. That doesn’t mean going unconditionally. Consultations between clubs are necessary but it will probably go well.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
