Yokohama striker acknowledges Celtic link in potential Ange return

The links to Yokohama Marinos players following Ange Postecoglou’s move were undoubtedly inevitable. Celtic have been linked to players galore in recent weeks, such as Carl Starfelt, Brandon Soppy and Mat Ryan; yet the inevitable link to the J-League side finally appeared in recent weeks.

Striker Ado Onaiwu was linked to Celtic as soon as Ange moved to Glasgow – prompting intense speculation about which other J-League players the Australian would bring over to Paradise. Yet, despite the rumours, nothing materialised, proving it to be more than likely media sensationalism.

However, in a recent interview with the Scottish Sun, Onaiwu has admitted he has read the speculation; and despite saying he is committed to the cause in Japan, a move to Europe is, for many players, too hard to turn down…

“I’ve read about the speculation about my future, but my only thought at the moment is to try and catch Kawasaki Frontale in the league because they are nine points ahead of us”, Onaiwu said.

“I think I’ve had a pretty good season and a lot of that is down to the chances created by my teammates. We are on a great run after winning six matches in a row and I think you can see that we have not let the loss of the manager cause us problems.”

“I believe I have improved a lot even from last year and this season I am scoring chances that I may have missed last season. But to win the league I must keep scoring goals and that’s what I want to do here. The future will take care of itself”

That last line gives me hope that Celtic will look to sign Onaiwu – and for a player who is the second top scorer in the J-League, whom Ange is evidently fond of, it is a move I would. like to see happen…
