A delighted Stephen Welsh looked back on Celtic’s never-say-die victory up at McDiarmid Park on Saturday that ensured that celtic remained top of the league looking down on theRangers.
The 22 year old Celtic defender has been an admirable understudy alongside Moritz Jenz in the Champions League match against RB Leipzig last Wednesday and with Cameron Carter-Vickers back in the side one of the two will start tomororw night against the Bundesliga side in the return match in the Champions double header. Welsh is certainly relishing the prospect.
On the dramatic 95th minute winner at Perth, Welsh was thrilled to get the goal and secure all three points which he reckons was no more than Celtic deserved.
“That is what this club is all about. As the manager said, we keep going, we never stop. We suffered a setback late on, but we kept going, we kept pursuing and Alexandro Bernabei has done brilliantly down the left wing and thankfully that one has gone in,” the Celtic defender said, as reported by Daily Record.
“We created a lot of chances and we just have to trust in ourselves, trust the players around us. If the manager trusts you to go and play you should trust yourself to go and play. I thought we did that.
“We could have been three or four up before they scored. We always create chances. It is about putting them away.
“We switched off in the last couple of minutes and conceded a poor goal from our point of view. But the character the boys showed was great. We have done it many times before and we will look to push on to Tuesday.”
The Celtic defender praised match-winner Giorgos Giakoumakis who received a rousing rendition of his own song from the Celtic as his reward for hitting the back of the St Johnstone net in the closing seconds. “Giako has been brilliant. He is always waiting for his chance whether he comes off the bench or plays a full 90. You always fancy him to nick a goal and he did it at the perfect moment.”
