‘You never know’, Kieran Tierney teases Celtic return in future

Former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has teased a Celtic return in the future. The Arsenal full-back has been vying with Oleksandr Zinchenko for a place in the starting XI this season but given the Ukrainian’s injury struggles, Tierney will have the opportunity to impress Mikel Arteta.

Speaking to The Currie Club podcast with Darrell Currie, the Scotland Internationalist was asked whether he would consider a return to the Scottish Champions at one stage in his career.

“I think when a player who loves the club leaves there’s always that, ‘what if he comes back’ and you can’t rule anything out,”

“I’m always going to love Celtic, I’m always going to support Celtic so you never know in football, you genuinely don’t.

The left-back made over 170 appearances for Celtic, winning five league titles and three League Cups and Scottish Cups during his time whilst enjoying hero status with supporters as being ‘one of us’. The former Celtic defender left the Scottish Champions in the summer of 2019 for a fee in the region of £25m, becoming the most expensive Scottish export.

At 25, Tierney will have a number of years in England ahead of him but he will certainly want to return to his boyhood club to finish his career. However, there is always a pitfall of players returning to the club that they made their name. In Tierney’s case, it almost feels like an inevitability that he will be linked with a return.
