Young Celts Played With Rip Roaring, Free Scoring, Never Boring Angeball Approach

Celtic U18s played with a style befitting of Celtic’s attacking philosophy and in keeping with Ange Postecoglou’s approach to the game.

Jock Stein once said “If they score three, we’ll score four”, while Postecoglou recently remarked that the record he’d most like to break would be the one for goals scored in a league season.

A 6-5 victory in the Youth Cup Final last night is almost the dictionary definition of rip roaring, free scoring, never boring Glasgow Celtic – a term used to describe Ange’s senior stars.

There were defensive errors and lapses, but the attacking intent was a joy to watch. Some of the goals that the young Celts scored were phenomenal, including the winning strike – a sharp back heel which caught the goalkeeper off guard. Even in the final minutes of extra time, when holding a slender lead, Celtic’s centre back was galloping forward and crossing the ball into the box for another defender to head on target! It was cavalier stuff at its entertaining best.

The victory means that Celtic’s first team, B team, women’s team and U18s have all beaten theRangers this season. Doing it in style only adds to the pleasure of that story.
