£15m flop urged to move north to Celtic to resurrect his career

Just because a player has been written off down south, that doesn’t mean they can’t still be a success with the right move.

Realistically Celtic are going to struggle to sign any ready made top class players, so they need to take a chance on developing someone with talent or take a bigger chance on someone who’s gone off the rails.

That second example will need a lot of work and research, as signing someone with a bad attitude is never going to work out.

We’ve seen countless players come to Scotland and think they will be a class above without trying, but that never works out and it’s just embarrassing for everyone involved.

Jordan Ibe is a player who’s having a bad time at Bournemouth, he’s been in legal trouble and can’t get on the pitch, but there’s clearly a talented player in there.

Ibe in action

He’s still only 24, he’s pacey and physical, can play anywhere across the front line and has an eye for goal, so on paper that seems like the type of player that Celtic should be after.

The Guardian reported that The Cherries paid £15m to sign him from Liverpool, and now a report from the Bournemouth Echo has looked at the possibility of him moving north.

They look at some words from Kevin Phillips, and he seems to think it would be the ideal move for him.

“Jordon Ibe, his career has hit the railroads.A move north of the border might give him a chance to resurrect his career and get back to the Ibe we have seen over the years. The quality down here (in England) is far superior to Scotland.”

“If they can get him on the cheap it could be a really good signing for Celtic. The way they bring players on and what does Neil Lennon does up there.”

“It could be a good move for the lad. Playing in front of those amazing supporters will give him an extra 10 per cent.”

The obvious comparison with Scott Sinclair in a career sense is there, and he found a new lease of life when he moved north.

It looks like Southampton might hold out for a big for for Mohamed Elyounossi, so Ibe could be cheaper and could cover a similar role in the team, so it’s easy to see why Celtic might be interested.

It would be a huge gamble and he would need to be completely bought in, but if it worked out then it could be  complete masterstroke from Lenny.
