Celtic should push to sign legendary striker as a short term fix if Eddy leaves

It’s hard to tell what state the transfer market will be in this Summer, but the financial uncertainty just now does make you wonder if some clubs might cash in on a main asset to help alleviate any fears.

It seems clear that Odsonne Edouard will leave Celtic Park at some point, he’s destined for the highest level and he will surely command a record breaking fee when he does go.

The thing is, he’s still developing and it could be too soon to make that move. He’s the main man at Celtic and will get another run in European competition next season, so it makes sense to stay for one more year at least.

Despite that, it’s probably time to start thinking about his successor. Celtic have hit the jackpot twice with Dembele and Eddy, so it’s reasonable to think that the next striker might need some time to bed in, so a short term answer might be needed if Edouard leaves this Summer.

It would be an ambitious one, but The Mirror reported that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ready to walk out on AC Milan after turmoil behind the scenes, and he’s been complimentary towards the club in the past.

Realistically he’s not going to move to an elite team at his age, he’s burned his bridges at Malmo and you can’t imagine him wanting to go out like this, so one final season with Celtic could be phenomenal.

He’s still playing at a high level and the sheer aura around him would scare the opposition, while he also has the experience to drag his team to victory so that could be vital in tight European games.

Of course there are a lot of things that would need to fall into place here, but Zlatan leading the line with someone to learn from him with a view to taking over the year after would be magnificent to see.
