Wing and a Prayer – Stakes increasing high in Celtic Boardroom

Luis Palma yesterday sealed a loan move to Polish side Lech Poznan who have an option to sign the Honduran on a permanent deal, whilst Marco Tilio is on the verge of joining Austrian side Rapid Vienna on a similar move…

With Nicolas Kuhn also having upped sticks to join Como it’s certainly left Celtic extremely short in the wide areas, so it’s imperative that we rectify that and move quickly to bring in a minimum of two new additions in that area as a matter of urgency.

Our club in’t exactly known for doing business quickly, but I’ve got a feeling that things are happening behind the scenes and we will soon be welcoming new additions to the club. If I am wrong then you’d have to ask what is actually going on, especially as there is also background noises suggesting Daizen Maeda could be sold to Brentford this summer. Surely that can’t be allowed to happen?

At the moment we only have Maeda, evergreen James Forrest and Yang – who has been rumoured to be a player of interest for Norwich City – who can operate on the flanks, and possibly Benjamin Nygren, so I think it’s safe to say that Brendan will be urging the moneymen to push through multiple deals pretty much immediately.

I can’t see Rodgers planning to use Nygren as a winger, instead he’ll play in the midfield as an attacking number eight alongside Reo Hatate.

With Nicolas Kuhn, Luis Palma and Marco Tilio all leaving we will have the budget to plug the gap that their departures have left, so all the signs point to some business being done in the not to distant future.

And while the above is concerning there is one positive perhaps hiding in plane sight. If Celtic are so dramatically changing the squad this summer it can only be at the insistence of the manager and if that is indeed the case then that would surely not be happening unless Celtic were pretty certain that Brendan Rodgers was going to be here to work with this new look squad for more than one season.

Brendan Rodgers

Of course of the deals don’t happen – for whatever reason – ie other clubs sensing our increasing need so increasing the asking price -then you can’t see Brendan working with only remaining wingers then perhaps the best of the B Team.

Stakes are therefore very high indeed in the Celtic boardroom. Stay tuned…

Unlike yourself, I don’t share your optimism.
I fear this is all becoming depressingly familiar; we will wait and see if we qualify for the Champions League and by that time targets that we did identify have joined other clubs and prices of what’s left will rise accordingly.

I’m afraid we never learn so we’ll just repeat the same pathetic cycle over and over again while throwing out vague statements like “work going on behind the scenes”, “ongoing talks” , “pursuing multiple targets” only to conclude with “we just couldn’t get the deals over the line”.

  2. Celtic plc operate to the detriment of the team, sell sell sell, pile the money high! Rodgers ain’t going to be a happy man. No way is he staying.

  3. More negativity. How can we honestly be saying Palma and Tillio going is leaving us short ? They never play for us ! Anyone at the game on Saturday must recognise that we have a big and talented squad and a top class manager? We were beating an epl team comfortably at half time and that’s – at that point – without Tierney, Hatate, Scales, Nigren, Idaho plus CCV &AJ and the new Japanese striker. .But people are anxious we are not splashing money out on unknowns from abroad – this winger from Belgium noone else is interested in for example. The board is there to ensure the company is secure, profitable and successful on the field. That they have done.
Performance on the park is down to the football side. Jotas injury has added a problem out wide but we are hardly short of players. Might encourage us to play a bit more direct – witness second goal on Saturday. Think positive !!😄👍🍀
