John Kennedy gives exciting transfer update as Celtic target to improve

JOHN KENNEDY has discussed Celtic’s aspirations in the transfer window as the club look to win 10IAR next year. The club’s Assistant Manager gave supporters a transfer update to Clyde Superscoreboard, where he revealed that even during lockdown the management and scouts have been working on identifying talent to improve the record-chasing Celts.

Celtic have already completed their first piece of transfer business with Eboue Kouassi leaving the club for Genk. However, the club’s transfer business won’t stop there as Kennedy looks to an uncertain transfer market to strengthen his side ahead of another potentially historic season.

“We want to bring a couple of fresh faces in to give us a lift and try strengthen in the areas we think we can improve and help the team.

“That will be no different this year. It’ll be more challenging I think as we don’t know the state of the transfer market yet, we don’t know when windows will run – we are waiting on guidance for that.”

Kennedy and the Celtic scouts have spent their time during lockdown not learning new hobbies but instead watching potential new signings.

“We have spent this time at home looking at potential players to come in and improve the squad. All our scouts have spent loads of time working from home on that as well. There’s a lot of dialogue with them, still a lot of planning in place of what we could do at some point, we need to wait see how that materialises.”

Last month, Celtic’s Head of Recruitment Gary Penrice confirmed that the club were watching 240 players during lockdown. The chances are that these won’t be marquee signings given the financial state that Scottish football finds itself in, which means that any decision to sign players needs to be worth it. Fraser Forster and Moi Elyounoussi have been touted for a return to Celtic Park; however, there are a number of other areas that the club will be looking at.

Whilst Kennedy could have decided to join Brendan Rodgers at Leicester, he decided to remain at Celtic and has been an integral part of the transition between Rodgers and Lennon, giving the players the tactical briefings that they were accustomed to under Rodgers.

Kennedy and Lennon have formed a winning partnership, winning four out of four trophies since their appointment. The pair will be without Damien Duff who will depart next month and they will require a replacement to step in ready to continue the winning momentum that the club are enjoying.
