Former Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati lands new role

Former Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati has landed a new role in management with the Italian taking up his second role as a No.1 in his native land’s fourth division. Donati is remembered for scoring that late winner against Shakhtar Donetsk in The Champions League. However, he bought into the club and even has a Celtic badge tattooed on his arm.

The 41-year-old midfielder made 47 appearances for the club, assisting 4 and scoring 5 times. Gordon Strachan signed the player for £1.5m at the end of June 2007 but fifteen years later, he is making a name for himself as a manager. Formerly of A.S. Sambenedettese of Serie C, Donati will take up a gig at Serie D club FC Legnago Sulis. The Italian would hope that he can improve on a fairly disastrous first job that was plagued with financial woes.

Donati played with Hamilton and St Mirren before remaining in Scottish football as a coach to Angelo Alessio during his ill-fated term as Killie manager. The ex-Celt has stated previously that the Paradise hotseat is his dream job.

Hopefully, Massimo can make an impression as the manager with Legnago.

  1. Best of luck to him. Wish he could have made more of an impact at Celtic, a good player and likeable guy.
