Video: Liz McNeill unveils Caesar statue in Bellshill to great acclaim

Wonderful scenes in Bellshill this afternoon as the Lanarkshire town’s community recognises one of their own, Celtic’s legendary player, captain, manager and ambassador Billy McNeill.

Caesar of course lifted the European Cup for Celtic but it’s important to note that that was just one afternoon in Lisbon. Billy McNeill contribution to the Celtic cause spanned many decades and even in his last few years, with his health failing Caesar still made every effort to support Celtic in any way possible.

Liz and the McNeill family are piped in…

Billy’s widow Liz and the extended McNeill family travelled through to Bellshill today and at around 1.30 pm Liz did the honours unveiling a brilliant statue in memory of Bellshill’s finest, the Lisbon Lion skipper Billy McNeill.

Well done to the committee and all involved in making this happen. Outstanding work.

Respect…
