Victor Wanyama has confirmed that he held talks with Neil Lennon over a potential return to Celtic. Speaking to Football Scotland, the Kenyan said that Tottenham were very difficult about him leaving and that Celtic were the club that he would have loved to play for. However, the demands of Spurs made it impossible for Celtic to pull off a move.
A few months before, Wanyama was involved in the Champions League Final against Liverpool but the arrival of Jose Mourinho and injuries pushed him down the pecking order, paving the way for a potential return to Celtic in January 2020. Now, he has revealed talks took place over a possible deal being agreed.
“I spoke to Neil as well and he said to me ‘it’s difficult with the demands’ and at that time they didn’t have the money to make it happen.
“But it is what is is. As I say, I still love that club, it’s in my heart.”

The 30-year-old is plying his trade with CF Montreal but is still holding it hope that one day he can return to Celtic. He was a fabulous player and one that impressed at both Southampton and Spurs.
He left Spurs after making 97 appearances since his move from Southampton; however, Celtic fans asked at the time why he hadn’t returned to Celtic. Wanyama made 91 appearances for Celtic in 2 seasons and is fondly remembered for the opener in the win over Barcelona.
