Back on 10th December 2000 Martin O’Neill’s Celtic side headed to Dens Park to take on Dundee in a vital league clash, and it turned out to quite an enthralling game…

The home side were bolstered by talent with names like Georgi Nemsadze, Juan Sara and Claudio Caniggia present in their starting XI so they would present quite a significant challenge.
A fantastic Celtic side
Celtic though were a fantastic side and had recently strengthened their own already talented squad by adding a certain Neil Lennon to their ranks at a cost of £6 million from Leicester City.
Lennon took his place in the Celtic midfield as he made his debut with the side looking to increase their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
Petrov opened the scoring
It started brightly when Stan Petrov opened the scoring in the 4th minute to put the hoops into an early lead.

Despite having a goal advantage the hoops didn’t look convincing and Dundee were the side who took the incentive as they swarmed forward influenced by the talented Caniggia as they searched for an equaliser.
A Tom Boyd OG
Then ten minutes into the second half the home side grabbed a deserved equaliser when that man Caniggia whipped a cross into the box and the unfortunate Tom Boyd diverted the ball into his own net and suddenly it was game on.
The home side with their tales now up continued to probe for a second goal, and caused the Celtic defence yet more problems, but they held firm as play raged from end to end as both sides looked to snatch a winner.

Agathe’s first goal for Celtic
With the game looking like it was heading for a stalemate, Celtic done what Celtic do best and that was of course grab a last gasp winner courtesy of Didier Agathe who headed the ball into the net literally on the goal line after a corner caused a frantic scramble in the Dundee box. It was Agathe’s first goal for Celtic and what a time to get it!
The final whistle sounded soon after, and despite not being at their best, Celtic moved seven points clear at the top of the table. Here’s some footage of the action from that memorable match at Dens Park, Dundee…
