“It wasn’t just the result that impressed me, it was the way Celtic played,” Didier Agathe

Didier Agathe knows a thing or two about hammering the old Rangers and for former Celtic wing-back was therefore mightily impressed not just be the result in the recent Glasgow Derby against their latest club playing out of Ibrox but also by the performance from Celtic.

Agathe will be an interested observer this afternoon when two of his old clubs – Celtic And Raith Rovers – meet in the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park in a match that is live on Premier Sports and also on Celtic TV outside of Britain and Ireland and he took the opportunity of the media coverage afforded to him as the most notable former player for both sides playing at Celtic Park this afternoon to outline his thoughts on the recent 3-0 victory at Celtic Park that took Celtic to the top of the league, looking down on theRangers...as the Celtic support at Pittodrie in midweek were singing…

Speaking to former Celtic View writer David Friel, now at  Scottish Sun, Agathe gave his thoughts on that significant 3-0 victory for his old club.

“It wasn’t just the result that impressed me, it was the way Celtic played. There is always pressure to play with style at Celtic and that is what they are doing at the moment. It was a very important result because this is a new team and you always need to take that step.

“Celtic are playing well. They have won one cup and will be looking to get more success this season. I like a lot of the players the manager has signed, especially Kyogo. He is not physical or big, but if you give him a chance, he’ll score.

“Kyogo has been a great signing and I believe he could be even better if Ange Postecoglou gets a bigger striker next to him. If he played alongside someone like Chris Sutton or John Hartson from my team, I believe he would score even more goals.”

And Agathe, who performed so magnificently for Celtic in that Road to Seville campaign, also turned his attention to Celtic’s new European adventure in the round of 16 play-off against Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt, the first leg taking place at Celtic Park on Thursday night with the return leg a week later at the Aspmyra Stadion up in the Arctic Circle. Will it be as cold as Pittodrie last Wednesday? Around 600 Celtic supporters are going to find out!

On the Europa Conference League journey that Celtic are about to embark on Agathe recognises the importance for a club like ours.

“There is always a challenge — can you take your form and results in Scotland to the European games? It is never easy but Celtic have a good squad now and I believe they can cope with all their commitments. European football is always important for the club and I hope they can go far in this tournament.”
