Aberdeen 0-1 Celtic – CCV and Trusty are colossal at the back

Another impressive defensive performance, CCV and Trusty are colossal at the back for Celtic and so too is Liam Scales who looks set to return against Hibs on Saturday…

Celtic unbeaten with 13 wins from 14 games

After last nights result we sit seven points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand. Unbeaten with 13 wins from 14 and a massive goal differential of plus 37.

That has mainly been down to our ruthlessness in front of goal as we have put the ball in the net an impressive 41 times, but just as importantly we’ve conceded on only 4 occasions.

Our forward play will duly receive the recognition, but our defence have been superb this campaign, and they continued that last night as they put in another fine solid display at the back.

Aberdeen didn’t threaten us much, but when they did the towering presence of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty snuffed them out.

Celtic’s two USA internationals

The two USA internationals have formed a great partnership at the back, and give us a great presence in an area we haven’t always had the greatest of confidence in.

Add to that the reliable and effective Irishman Liam Scales and we are in a good position with any two from three being able to do a great job for Brendan Rodgers.

The nerves that used to exist when a team piled pressure on us, particularly from set pieces is no longer there, and that in a big part is down to our two defensive colossus’ at the heart of the defence.

Not just domestically, but in Europe also. Our attacking threat will hog the headlines, but as they say, all great sides are built from the back, and last night we had two great big pillars in CCV and Auston Trusty.

Expect to see Liam Scales start at the weekend against Hibs. Maybe he’ll fancy another goal himself?

I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.
