Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin has suggested that he will change the tactics employed against Celtic in Tuesday’s game against Rangers. The Scottish Champions were dominant at Pittodrie, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Callum McGregor.
Dons supporters left the ground disgruntled that they had set up up with two banks of four and two strikers up the pitch. Effectively, it was a back eight intent on limiting Celtic’s space.
Now, Goodwin is saying to The Sun that he will look for his team to do more with the ball as they look to take something from the game.
“We just felt that was the best way to play the game, but tomorrow night is a different challenge.
“The game at Ibrox a few weeks back, we got loads of plaudits after the game because we, in a lot of people’s eyes, went to Ibrox and had a go.
“We lost the game 4-1 and it could have been six or seven.
“On Saturday, we had a different approach and narrowly lost 1-0. So you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
The Irishman, who’s side sit third in the table, will look to pose Michael Beale’s Rangers, who are trailing by nine points in the Cinch Premiership.
“Watching the Hibs game, it looks as if Michael has gone back to playing the the same way that he was coaching under Steven Gerrard.
“The three front men play narrower and the width comes from the full-backs, so it gives us something different to think about.
“Defensively we have to be as organised and as compact as we were on Saturday.
“But the most important thing tomorrow night is that when we do get possession, we do a lot more with it.”
Celtic fans will have one eye on events in the North East on Tuesday night as they line up against Livingston on Wednesday. Ange Postecoglou’s side are playing after Rangers in each of the game until the Glasgow Derby on January 2nd.
