The Aberdeen versus Celtic match scheduled for this evening at Pittodrie has been postponed after a 4pm pitch inspection, which was called after Aberdeen’s concerns about an area of their pitch…

Accordingly Aberdeen FC contacted the SPFL earlier this afternoon to arrange a pitch inspection which took place at 4pm.

Aberdeen FC explained: ‘Prolonged rain over the last few weeks has made the pitch heavy. The groundstaff have been working tirelessly to get it ready but there is an area of the surface at the Merkland end that is causing concern. A referee will inspect the pitch at 4.00pm and we will update supporters as soon as a decision has been made.’

Subsequent to the pitch inspection Aberdeen FC posted this update confirming tonight’s match is OFF.
“Our match this evening against Celtic has been postponed. Following an inspection by one of the match officials he has called the game off in the interests of player safety. Details for the re-arranged match will be published in due course.”

Chris Sutton was already in situ at Pittodrie ready to work on co-commentary duties for the game which was scheduled to be broadcast on Sky Sports. “All this way and Aberdeen v Celtic is off,” the former Celtic striker commented.

The travelling Celtic support was already en route to Aberdeen, and the buses will now have to turn around and head for home. Our photographer Vagelis Geogariou had travelled from Glasgow and stopped at Dundee to await news of the pitch inspection. He’s now heading back to Glasgow after a wasted journey.
Given the distances involves why was this pitch inspection not called earlier in the day.
Back in the centenary season Celtic buses were arriving in Aberdeen just as another pitch inspection called the game off. Not much has changed and once again Celtic supporters have had to turn around after what turned out to be a waste of time.

Tonight Celtic could have moved to within three points of leaders Hearts, as can theRangers who play Kilmarnock at Ibrox. Celtic’s schedule in February is packed with the two additional Europa League matches against Stuttgart taking up two of the midweeks, plus there is a full schedule next midweek with Celtic at home to Livingston.
Celtic confirmed that tonight’s match at Pittodrie was off, via the official Celtic FC website. The club stated:
‘Celtic’s Premiership match with Aberdeen at Pittodrie scheduled for tonight (Wednesday) has been postponed following a pitch inspection this afternoon.
The Hoops will now return to action this Saturday when they play host to Dundee in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup (KO: 5.30pm).
Details on a date for the re-arranged fixture against Aberdeen will follow in due course.’
Geo at least got to a game last night and certainly enjoyed this moment…

It’s an ill wind….
More time to sort out the loanees and injured.
Hail Hail.
