‘Absolutely everywhere’, Celtic youngster praised by loan club

Celtic’s Lee O’Connor has earned praise from his loan club, Tranmere Rovers. The Irishman is on loan at Prenton Park as he looks to gain first team experience in order to equip him for a return to Celtic and he is doing himself no harm with excellent performances for the Merseyside club.

O’Connor can play at right-back, centre-back and in the middle of the park, his versatility is a valuable asset and Ange Postecoglou will be keen to monitor his progress with the EFL League Two club.

The Republic of Ireland international spent the entire 2020/21 season on loan at Prenton Park, featuring 42 times as the club reached the League Two Play-Offs and Papa John’s Trophy final. The Tranmere support have clearly taken to O’Connor, hoping that he signs on a permanent basis.

Celtic’s loan portfolio should be seen as a conveyor belt for future first team players as they gain exposure to first team action away from the club before returning to make a tilt for first team action. Tony Ralston is a prime example to all budding youngsters of what can be done if you continue to work hard and have the right attitude. Even Celtic skipper Callum McGregor enjoyed a loan move away from Celtic Park with Notts County before returning to Celtic.
