“Absolutely no class whatsoever,” Former Celt reacts to events at Ibrox yesterday

Celtic rode into Ibrox yesterday and left with all three points in a display full of guts and determination as they created a six point gap in what has been a closely fought title race all season.

The main talking point should be how Ange Postecoglou and his squad have managed such an amazing turnaround this season, and especially over the past few months, but instead the focus once again is on the disgusting actions of some elements within theRangers support.

The lunchtime kick-off really showcased the worst of their support with a whole host of incidents bringing shame to Scottish football once more as it’s headline fixture, which is beamed throughout the world, was once again dragged through the gutter by certain people so full of hate they have came to a football match with the single intention of causing harm to someone involved with Celtic. It didn’t matter whether that was a Celtic fan, a Celtic player or a Celtic staff member. Everyone was a target for these lunatics.

Kris Commons in his weekly column for Scottish Daily Mail, writes passionately about his feelings on theRangers fans recent behaviour, calling it ‘disgraceful’ and stating that it has been clear ever since 2012 when the old Rangers died that their fan base has carried a chip on their shoulder, always playing the victim card as they blame everyone else in Scottish football for their clubs demise.

The former Celtic star said: “A lunchtime title showdown between the Glasgow rivals, it will have been watched by millions upon millions of people in all corners of the globe. Yet, with the eyes of the watching world fixed upon events at Ibrox, Scottish football’s premier fixture showcased its ugly underbelly.

“We’ve got (the)Rangers fans to thank for that. Those missiles which pelted Joe Hart’s penalty box and a Celtic member of staff were quite obviously thrown from sections of the stadium housing home supporters.

(the)Rangers have simply got to find the culprits and ban them for life. Seriously, what sort of idiot goes to a football match and thinks it’s a good idea to throw bottles on to the pitch?

“I’m not convinced a glass bottle would actually smash on a grass pitch unless it was thrown from a truly extraordinary height. So, unless it shattered off a goalpost, you’ve got to consider the possibility that someone has gone to Ibrox yesterday with a broken glass bottle in their pocket, with the intention of throwing the shards on to the pitch.

“Rangers fans can’t behave themselves at the best of times. They went down to Manchester in 2008 for the UEFA Cup final and caused mayhem. Then, after winning the title last year, they turned George Square into a riot zone. And these were supposed to be the good times?

(the)Rangers fans have a chip on their shoulders from the financial meltdown of 2012. They are very quick to play the victim card and seem to think the rest of the football world owes them a favour. Or that they can get away with blue murder and do whatever they please without any consequence. Now, admittedly, it would be wrong to tar them all with the same brush.

“A couple of my closest friends are (the)Rangers fans and we have great banter together. It’s all good-natured, knockabout stuff. But there is another element to a section of theRangers support who are, frankly, a disgrace. They have absolutely no class whatsoever.

“You could also see quite clearly on the TV cameras that Celtic winger Jota was having coins thrown at him as he went to take a corner”.

He then comments that the Green Brigade have had their issues in the past but nothing compares to what he saw yesterday. He continued: “But for someone to intentionally throw a bottle or broken glass on to a football pitch? Come on, that’s surely a new low. That’s actually worse than what we saw at George Square last year. It’s now up to (the)Rangers to engage with police to ensure the culprits never again set foot inside a football stadium.”

Commons has come out here and said what a lot of the commentators within Scottish football have been afraid to say. He is absolutely on the money when he states that their fans have had a huge chip on their shoulder since 2012. This is due of course to the Survival Myth which has allowed theRangers support to play the victim and blame everyone else for their demise. This is Scottish football’s own fault and should have been nipped in the bud then and there.

With the way things in their support are going over there at the moment I wouldn’t be surprised if Kris Commons receives all sorts of disgusting threats after having the gall to state the truth. Yesterday saw their fan base at its worst, and I fear as Celtic continue to get stronger under Ange Postecoglou and dominate once again we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg in regards to how bad things are going to get with their “ugly underbelly”.

But of course this is an “Old Firm” problem.
Problem here is that no one ever seems to be arrested over there for the incidents that occur.
They’ve been allowed to reduce police numbers and use their own fans as security staff which should raise concerns.
Of course the media suddenly develop selective blindness to go along with their selective hearing.

Was only last season that their director came out and said that Scottish football and all who wronged (in their opinion) them, will pay both on & off the park. A klub full of scum who are so full of hate, and wonder why they’re very much despised by every club in the country and others around the globe who’ve had the misfortune to have their fans show up in their city. If they were your pet, you’d take them to the vet and say your goodbyes.
