“The 700 inside today were outstanding,” Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou reflected on Celtic’s significant 2-1 win at Ibrox yesterday afternoon and recognised that it was achieved with more that just footballing ability, with numerous other characteristics needed to get the three points in what was the most hostile of environments.

And the Celtic manager as always recognised the contribution to the cause made by the 700 Celtic supporters who stood with pride, never stopped singing and supporting the team as bottles and other missiles were continually directed at them from a hateful home support.

“I’m really proud. I’m proud of the players, and it was an enormous effort today.

“The opposition had everything going in their favour – they scored early, the crowd was up and in those kind of situations, to turn it around like we did showed real character throughout the whole game. I thought it was outstanding.

“They’ve shown it from the start and I keep saying it to people that it’s probably the thing that’s undervalued about this group of players.

“There’s been no excuses along the way, we’ve just put our heads down and kept going, and that character they’ve shown right throughout the year, we needed every bit of it today because it was a real derby game and I’m proud of their efforts.

“We clawed our way back into the game after they got off to a bit of a flying start but we were never going to settle for a point, we were never going to settle for a draw. We came here to win and we posed them some problems. We had some chances to further extend that lead.

“They put some pressure but I thought we dealt with it really well. They put a lot of crosses in the box and Joe made a couple of good saves, but I thought we handled it really well.

“You don’t come away from a game like this unless the players have shown every bit of the best of themselves. Sometimes it’s the football that’s the decider and we had our moments today, but we had to show real character and courage and determination, led by an outstanding leader in Cal – I thought we handled it well.

“The 700 inside today were outstanding and they played their part and I’m super pleased to send them home happy. And I know there are millions at home who are just bouncing around at the moment and I couldn’t feel happier for them.”

Celtic are now six points clear with six games remaining and also have the benefit of a significantly better goal difference. So theRangers need to win at Celtic Park and all their others games too and hope that Celtic slip up in two of the remaining games to get them their second title.

Can you see theRangers winning six from six while Celtic win three, draw one and lose two? It’s not impossible but the bookies would be giving them very attractive odds to say the least.

What a job Ange has done!
