“Absolutely Shafted” – Confirmation that Celtic did request January Postponements

The fog of passing time can sometimes play tricks on us all, especially when trying to look back at events that we’d all rather forget. It’s like theRangers fans who have been telling us this week that we’re obsessed as we’re still reminding them of what the former Rangers FC Donald Findlay QC had to say about their club ten years ago – yet they are more than happy to slur the good name of Jock Stein , a man who died in 1985.

We re-posted an old article on social media on 1 November to remind them about Donald Findlay’s clarity on the status of their new club and as usually happens they pile in with insults, their usual disgraceful fixation (as long as it’s not to do with the exact same thing happening at their old club) but they never, ever address the statements made by their own Rangers people back in 2012.

READ THIS…Remember, Remember…“You cannot pass on that which is undefinable, this is a new Rangers,” Donald Findlay QC

The same thing happens when we post the 55 quotes from Rangers men like Walter Smith (RIP) that all very clearly explain that Rangers FC were liquidated and a new club was formed. Walter even wished the new Rangers the best of luck!

At the weekend the Ross County v Hibs game was postponed and re-arranged for midweek. Then yesterday that re-arranged fixture was also postponed and so too was Hibs’ match with Livingston this weekend. The reason for all this happening is an outbreak of Covid within the Hibs squad.

Back in January Celtic returned from the ill-fated trip to Dubai and Christopher Jullien – who shouldn’t have been there anyway given that he’d just suffered a long-term knee injury, he’s not kicked a ball for Celtic this year – tested positive for Covid and Celtic had to self isolate most of the first team and management staff for the two games against Hibs and Livingston.

Today the Daily Record and various other briefed hacks have been explaining the rules that meant that Celtic games were NOT postponed but in the current situation as things stand the Hibs games have been granted postponements. That explanation may be valid for the re-arranged fixture against Ross County and the Livingston game this weekend as additional cases have been identified since the weekend, but it does mean that the decision to postpone the game last weekend is contrary to the rules that were used to force Celtic to play those two critical home games back in January.

There’s no point in crying over spilt milk but there is one very important point we’d like to stress and hopefully other Celtic Fan Media sites pick this up when discussing this matter.

For instance you might have read this morning on Video Celts this:

Celtic reported one positive test when they returned to Scotland but having followed the protocols Lennon was furious to see his squad wiped out for matches against Hibs and Livingston with the manager and John Kennedy also forced to watch from home. Fourteen players were told to self-isolate.

There was never any suggestion of Celtic requesting a postponement of their matches but four hours before kick-off at Dingwall Hibs had their match with Ross County postponed. On Sunday it was rescheduled for Wednesday but last night the SPFL stepped in, postponed it again as well as Saturday’s match against Livingston.

However the first sentence of that second paragraph is completely wrong. Last night we asked Celtic for clarification on this matter, specifically:

“Did we ask for a postponement at the start of the year when we had the Covid situation after Dubai?”

The response from Celtic this morning:

“Pretty sure we did and got told no, we got done and said it at the time absolutely shafted.”
