Adam Idah showed bottle, VAR did it’s job at Easter Road but not at Ibrox

Adam Idah showed bottle in scoring that winner last night, it will do his confidence the world of good…

Adam Idah wasn’t exactly welcomed at Celtic with open arms after his loan move from Norwich city late in the transfer window, but after his heroics last night, he will have won over more than a few doubters in the Celtic support.

He may have struggled like most of the side last night, but he did grab our two goals, both from the penalty spot. Our record from spot kicks has been poor of late, dreadful  actually, most recently against Ross County when Luis Palma missed twice from the spot. Indeed we’ve missed quite a few this campaign, more than any other side in the league.

But we seemed to have found someone confident and clinical when it comes to taking opportunities from the twelve yard line. Adam tucked away both spot kicks with great confidence and looked very assured. Particularly the winner which was on the 90th minute with so much title pressure riding on it.

That takes great bottle to do so. He showed tremendous courage and made himself a hero for grabbing such a vital goal. He will be feeling good about himself today and so he should, it will do his confidence the world of good. Hopefully he can kick on from here and find the net on a regular basis. It will benefit both the player and the team.

Afterwards he told Celtic TV: “It feels amazing. I’m confident from the spot, i’ve taken penalties my whole career. What a feeling. I’ve always wanted to play for Celtic and i’m so happy to get a couple tonight.”

Imagine theRangers supporters seeing Kyogo’s late effort saved and thinking that they were edging closer to the final whistle only for their pals in VAR to for once actually do the job they are paid handsomely to perform and rightly – for the second time in the game – award Celtic a penalty kick. They must have been sick.

It’s a pity VAR didn’t actually take a look at the two Goldson handballs in the closing stages at Ibrox the night before, because had they done so a penalty would have been the only possible correct outcome. Suppose that’s why they didn’t bother checking. But they’re shouting about us getting two penalties that were both stonewallers.

Brendan Rodgers accepts that the performance was nowhere as good as the result. “That’s important for us. We never got going second half. We made changes to be more offensive and we kept going. Adam stepped up and won us the game. He’s scored penalties before, his mindset is to come here and do very well.

“My honest feeling tonight is we weren’t creative enough, our final ball wasn’t good enough and then we create our own problems. We have to be better and there’s plenty to analyse tonight and improve on. There’s a long way to go, there’s a game on the field and then there’s a mental fight to go on with as well,” the Celtic manager told Celtic TV.
