Agent says striker wants Celtic move and Edouard’s reported wage demands

Celtic have a fair amount of work still to do in the transfer window and a lot of that work relates to French striker Odsonne Edouard. The ex-PSG man had been expected to depart the club this summer in a deal worth £20m, which would likely lead to the club finding a replacement. However, links to Leicester, Southampton and Brighton have all proved to be fruitless so far.

The hunt for a replacement is contingent upon selling Edouard and the man that has been touted as a potential arrival is Thomas Henry of OH Leuven.

The Scottish Sun are claiming that the striker has been pricing himself out of moves to mid-level Premier League clubs. The report claims that Edouard wants £85k-per-week, which resulted in Southampton signing Adam Armstrong instead of the striker that scored 22 goals last season. Nice, Crystal Palace and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for the player so he may still depart. The issue with Celtic having to wait to see if Edouard goes means that Ange Postecoglou may miss out on Henry, who is the subject of a reported £4.5m bid from Gent, which has been accepted.

Speaking to Football Insider, Henry’s UK agent, Paul Tait, said that the player wants to move to Celtic.

“Thomas’ preference is to join Celtic if they can agree a fee with Leuven.

“Gent have agreed a fee with Leuven and they are in pole position to land Thomas.”

Henry scored 21 goals last season and the player would represent a more than capable replacement for Edouard, should he depart. Henry is an imposing centre forward that would offer another dimension to the Celtic attack should he sign. The quoted fee appears realistic for Celtic to match Gent but it may be a case of having to sell Edouard before any deal is forthcoming for Henry.

Edouard will likely see himself at a new club by the end of the window but the hope is that Celtic do not miss out on a deal for Henry as they wait on Edouard’s deal going through.

  2. Agreed, but can you blame clubs for being reluctant to sign Edouard? (Come on now Odsonne! Prove me wrong by scoring a hat-trick today, and I will apologise profusely!)
