Aiden McGeady’s season over as former Celt faces big call on future

Former Celtic attacker Aiden McGeady’s Hibs season is over after the Irish winger picked up a hamstring injury. The 36-year-old faces an anxious wait as his contract comes to an end this summer meaning that McGeady may be considering hanging up his boots.

As reported by BBC Sport, McGeady will see a specialist to determine whether he requires surgery. After moving to Easter Road, McGeady has made just fourteen appearances since linking up again with Lee Johnson, who managed him at Sunderland.

McGeady, a product of Celtic’s youth system, left Paradise in 2010 for Spartak Moscow. The player made over 180 appearances for Celtic and has enjoyed spells with Everton, Preston North End and Sunderland. After twelve years, he returned to the league that propelled him to become a £10m player but instead the Green and White of Hibs.

Despite McGeady’s best days being behind him, he was seen an astute signing by Hibs. He added quality and experience to their squad. However, injuries have limited him this season, even if he clearly was still an extremely talented player.
