Albanian President Meta sends message to Celtic after ‘very promising draw’

WEARING his Celtic shirt the President of Albania appears to be delighted that Celtic came away from Romania last night with a 1-1 draw which he reckons puts Celtic in a great position to progress to the Play-off rounds when the two teams meet at Paradise next Tuesday night.

“From this waterfall at an altitude of 1850m in Prevalla, I congratulate Celtic FC fans for a very promising draw against CFR Cluj as they get closer to the next Champions League round. I wish you success in the 2 leg at Paradise! Once you’re a Celt you’re always a Celt..Hail Hail,” Ilir Meta wrote on social media.

The Albanian President met up with The Celtic Supporters in Sarajevo last month and enjoyed a sing-song before posting a photograph of himself on Twitter the next day, wearing a Celtic shirt that former Celtic Star Rudi Vata, the only Albanian to have worn the Hoops, had given to the political leader.

And it seems that Celtic supporters are attracting political leaders on their travels around Europe in these qualifiers. Last night Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn met some Hoops fans on a flight to Romania and they immediately invited the Prime Minister in Waiting to the game. Corbyn was happy to go along and it has to be said as a PR move among the support, it seems to have bene very well received.

The Labour Party leader’s tweet (above) has had over 17k likes and almost 4k retweets. Whether his trip to Romania was a coincidence or not it certainly has done his profile among The Celtic support some good.

Perhaps it’s a counter to the Tories playing up to the bigots across the city through that loathsome Murdo Fraser, a huge favourite on their forums and always eager to put their agendas forward in the Scottish Parliament.

Arlene Foster, the DUP leader has also been known to visit Ibrox, she was there for instance on that wonderful day when Celtic beat her favourites 5-1 in April 2017. See if you can spot her, this is one of the best ever photographs from that game. Absolute misery for them…

After the penalty shoot-out win over Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final in 2016, Fraser tweeted,” “Rangers 5 Celtic 4 – The Queen’s 11 deliver Her Majesty the perfect Birthday present ScottishCup,” although he was left speechless as Hibs pumped them in the Final, with two on-loan Celtic’s doing most of the damage.

One of The Celtic goal scorers that awful afternoon is back in action against Fraser’s favourites tonight. Would be nice to see Big Erik do this again…
