Alex Rae believes Celtic don’t need Lawrence Shankland

Celtic have had a problem with strikers this season, with both Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo struggling to provide much up front. As a result, a number of strikers have been linked with the club. And one of them is Dundee United’s 25-goal man, Lawrence Shankland.

The Scot has been absolutely brilliant this season and considering his form, it is no surprise that the Hoops are being linked with him. But the question is – Do Celtic really need Shankland at this point of time?

At least, Alex Rae does not believe so. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the former Rangers man said:

“I don’t think at this present time when you consider the options they’ve actually got. They’ve obviously got Edouard, you’ve got Griffiths, you’ve got [Klimala] and you’ve got Bayo.”

The options at Parkhead certainly look a lot better now than they looked a few weeks ago. Odsonne Edouard is expected to carry on with his brilliant form in the second half of the season. Patryk Klimala has been brought in from Jagiellonia Bialystok for €4-million. And on Saturday, Leigh Griffiths also seemed like a man ready to fight for his Celtic career. And forgotten man, Vakoun Issouf Bayo, is also set to return from injury in a few weeks.

Thus, bringing in Lawrence Shankland will surely mean that either Griffiths or Bayo has to leave. And even then the Hoops will be left with four strikers fighting for one spot. Instead, waiting till the summer seems much more logical.
