Alexandro Bernabei close to Celtic transfer

Lanus defender Alexandro Bernabei is close to a move to Celtic, according to a report by Football Scotland. This comes after the opening of the transfer window yesterday and the addition of American centre-back and Tottenham Hotspur player, Cameron Carter-Vickers.

According to the report, Celtic have stepped up their interest in the last few days for a left-back. South America has been a part of the globe Ange Postecoglou and his team have been scouting of late, being linked with a few names such as Francisco Ortega and Bernabei’s Lanus teammate, Julian Aude.

Now it’s being written that the Hoops could be on the verge of snagging their third summer signing, after bagging the aforementioned Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda who had an obligation to buy included from club Yokohama F. Marinos. The defence is certainly an area that the manager is looking to strengthen moving into pre-season.

Aberdeen retain a keen interest in Irish defender Liam Scales, whilst Christopher Jullien’s time at the club appears to be at an end. Coupled with this is the fact that Greg Taylor played an awful lot of football last season without any strong competition which is unreasonable heading into the Champions League group stages next year.

Football Scotland have confirmed that Alexandro was missing in Lanus’ last match as he was on ‘Euro business’. They referred to a statement produced by Lanus themselves on their website which reads:

“The team led by Jorge Almirón will not be able to count again on its historical scorer, José Sand, who is injured, nor on Alexandro Bernabei, who will return to the country this weekend, after having carried out personal procedures in Europe.”

We can only watch and wait for updates regarding this one. Hopefully the search for a left-back is coming to an end sooner rather than later, as we look to streamline this squad in phase two of Ange’s plan for this club.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
