Sky Sports to broadcast new Ange Postecoglou interview in 2021-22 Title triumph show

Sky Sports are set to broadcast a show regarding this season’s Celtic title triumph. The broadcaster had already posted a website article surrounding this last year and gives a snippet into the programme itself. Many fans will be hoping it covers this year’s phenomenal turnaround better than it’s counterparts over at the BBC, who didn’t cover themselves in glory with a hatchet job on Ange’s achievements this past footballing year.

Having posted the preview and article yesterday on the 10 June, it’s significance was that it was one year to the day in which we appointed the Greek-Aussie as manager of the football club. After the devastation of the previous year, nobody saw what was about to unfold coming; in fact most were highly critical of the way that the Celtic heirarchy hired Ange, with doubts over whether or not he had the correct coaching license’s to operate in Europe.

After the hullabaloo it turned out he would be able to get an exemption due to having a wealth of experience, in tandem with managing the Socceroos at a World Cup. However, that would just be the beginning as he would have to now start rebuilding a squad that was depleted in various areas and contained wantaway stars. Ange was very forthcoming with what he expected and vowed never to try and sell the virtues of our club, as the prestige of playing for a European Cup winner should be enough on its own.

Invariably people still left; we waved goodbye to Kris Ayer, Odsonne Edouard as well as Ryan Christie. Their sales helped bring in numerous faces to the new-look side. Before he had had time to get his new group together in its entirety, he faced an opening cinch Premiership match at Tyncastle against Hearts. This would prove to be a step too far as he had barely put his stamp on the team by the end of July – already stumbling at the first Champions League qualifier versus Mitdjylland of Denmark.

As fate would have it, we would also falter on that opening night due to some awful defending. Carl Starfelt was thrown in at the deep end and failed to get to grips with the pace of the game at times, which followed a barage of comments that he would never be ” ‘Celtic class’. Kyogo was also shoved onto the field of play having just met up with his teammates that very afternoon. Bonkers when looking back.

But, Ange never wavered and encouraged all his players to ‘trust the process’. They did, and we did, now we have collectively reaped the benefits of the big man’s philosophy of the game. If his record beforehand didn’t evoke feelings of confidence, then his League Cup Final win against Hibs would. Following this we saw the January arrival of several additions, amongst them our Japanese internationals, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi – two of whom were crucial in deciding the fate of the title.

Back-to-back wins over theRangers saw us leapfrog them into first place in the league table. Crucial wins away at Livingston, Aberdeen and Tyncastle would help pave the way for the locomotive steam engine known as Angeball to overtake our rivals with a mix of lovely football and gritty determination. A final point at Tannadice via a Giorgos Giakoumakis headed goal was enough to secure a League and cup double for Ange in his first season, dishing out humble pie and an abundance of nightmares across town.

The new programme will be shown this Friday 17 June at 6.00pm on Sky Sports Football, despite the advertisement saying 16 June.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
