Ange Postecoglou agrees terms as Australian plots travel to Glasgow

Ange Postecoglou has agreed terms to become the new manager of Celtic. Sky Sports News’ Anthony Joseph has confirmed that the club, who agreed compensation with Yokohama F Marinos last week, had reached an agreement with the 55-year-old to become Celtic’s next manager.

Joseph says that the club are hopeful that the deal can be done and announced for the manager to take training ahead of trip to Wales for a pre-season camp. Now, Postecoglou needs to get himself to Glasgow in order to begin the sizeable task of rebuilding after a disastrous last season.

Australian media outlet SEN‘s Andy Maher stated that the former Socceroos boss will travel to Glasgow on Wednesday night.

“I have it on very good authority that Ange Postecoglou will coach his team (Yokohama F. Marinos) on Wednesday night in the Emperor’s Cup against Honda and that will be last time that he coaches in Japan.

“I am told reliably that he will be on a plane that night via Athens heading to Glasgow and will be announced as the Celtic coach thereafter upon arrival.”

Eddie Howe had been widely expected to be announced but the deal fell through due to differences in approach to the backroom staff, leaving the door ajar for Postecoglou to become the frontrunner for the job. Now, Celtic look to be entering the ‘Age of Ange’ with the former Brisbane Roar boss set to takeover as Celtic look to regain Scottish football’s honours after a season without any trophies.

In isolation, he is an interesting candidate and one that could do very well at Celtic. Unfortunately for him and through no fault of his own, he will arrive under intense scrutiny after the club’s very public and very lengthy pursuit of Eddie Howe.

Ange’s first task appears to assemble a backroom team but without Kevin Muscat. The same report said that Postecoglou was considering a move for the ex-Rangers defender but if he wishes to earn himself some more goodwill from the support, Muscat cannot be involved.
