Ange Postecoglou faces Tottenham uncertainty

Ange Postecoglou may have delivered European silverware to Tottenham Hotspur, but the former Celtic manager’s future remains shrouded in uncertainty following a dismal Premier League campaign…

The Australian boss guided Spurs to a Europa League triumph last week, offering a rare highlight in what was otherwise a turbulent season in North London. Yet, despite lifting the trophy, Postecoglou finds himself under increasing scrutiny after a 4–1 home defeat to a Brighton side featuring former Celtic player Matt O’Riley, leaving Spurs to finish a staggering 17th in the Premier League.

Spurs fans still revelling in their glory

Yet the Spurs fans were still revelling in their glory like the sensible punters that choose to review the best casino offers at Zamsino.Casino before playing real money games online, celebrating their first European trophy triumph since the mid-1980s. Every since the final whistle in Bilbao they refuse to come down off cloud 9, it’s actually what is so special about supporting a football club, you have to relish the good times that are often few and far between because the harsh reality of failure is never that far away.

Look at the list of top managers who failed to win anything at Spurs. Amongst them Ange Postecoglou stands alone with a Europa League title to his name. It’s very hard to be a winner and a manager of Spurs and it’s surely worth seeing what can be around the corner with the Champions League place Postecoglou also earned with that win in the Basque County.

Speculation around Postecoglou’s future has become relentless

However the speculation around Postecoglou’s future has become relentless — a point that former Manchester United captain Roy Keane was quick to challenge during an appearance on Sky Sports.

“I think it’s unfair to keep asking about the situation, because he’s under contract,” Keane said. “I haven’t heard other managers getting asked constantly about whether they are going to be in the job next year. Why should he have to answer that?

“Yes, their league form has been shocking, but he’s just won a trophy and they’re in the Champions League next season. You’d think he would get some sort of backing.”

“Sometimes they kill off the main character in season three.”

The former Celtic boss has maintained a typically composed demeanour in the face of growing media pressure, but his own remarks have hinted at uncertainty. After the final game of the season, he cryptically noted that “sometimes they kill off the main character in season three.”

“I’m hearing a few things that aren’t necessarily going in his favour.”

Jamie Redknapp, responding to Keane’s defence, admitted he’s been hearing mixed signals from inside the club. “I’ve heard lots,” Redknapp revealed. “It’s one of the most bizarre seasons I can remember — finishing that low, but still winning a European cup. You have to credit him for that. Still, I’m not getting the best vibe about his future. I think he deserves another season, but I’m hearing a few things that aren’t necessarily going in his favour.”

Daniel Levy yet to make an official statement

With club chairman Daniel Levy yet to make an official statement, Tottenham’s silence only adds to the uncertainty. For Postecoglou, a summer that should have celebrated continental success now threatens to become one filled with doubt and speculation, and maybe a new challenge.

Ange shouldn’t be short of offers.
