Ange reveals Rodgers’ supporting role during Celtic tenure

Ange Postecoglou has endorsed Brendan Rodgers to be a success as the Irishman returns to Celtic for a second spell as manager. The Spurs boss spoke about Rodgers’ love for the club as well as his ambitions for his return as Celtic manager.

Ange, who was speaking at his first media conference following his switch from The Scottish Champions, revealed that he had kept in touch with Rodgers for the last couple of years. You can watch Ange’s full media conference HERE.

“He’s absolutely the right man, mate. He’s a fantastic manager and he loves that football club.

“He was constantly messaging me while I was Celtic manager to make sure that I stayed on track and we had success. I’ve exchanged messages with him and he was very, very supportive when I got the (Celtic) role.

“Even when I got this role, he sent me a nice message and I reciprocated and stayed in contact with him and all the staff there. I’ve no doubt they’ll have great success.

“Hopefully, they can make an impact in the Champions League, I know that’s what his ambition is. That group of players and staff certainly have the capability to do that.”

Ange left after a Treble success last season and Brendan is no stranger to winning a back-to-back Treble but he’s been clear he won’t sacrifice domestic dominance for European success. He wants both.

It is telling that Rodgers was in-touch with Ange through his tenure and how closely he kept updated with matters in Glasgow.

Whilst Ange will be looking to rebuild in North London, Celtic will go on and look to go to another level under the returning Rodgers. Some of his first moves in the role have been mightily impressive, extending the contracts for Daizen Maeda, Kyogo and Callum McGregor.
