Ange’s homecoming tour latest – Sydney Super Cup may be in doubt

Ange Postecoglou’s homecoming tour for the November Sydney Super Cup may be in doubt. Sky Sports NZ journalist Jason Pine has taken to social media to highlight that some issues arising with the organiser may well mean that the tournament, due to take place while club football shuts down for the Qatar World Cup, may now not be certain to take place.

“Hearing football’s Sydney Super Cup may be in serious doubt. Unresolved issues with organiser escalating behind the scenes according to local sources. Launch may have been premature.”

Celtic have only recently confirmed they are taking part in the tournament where the Hoops will somewhat controversially play theRangers, as well as the possibility of matches with either or both A-League sides Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

It takes some effort to see both sides of the Glasgow divide to agree on anything, but for differing reasons it appears great numbers of both support’s seem united in not wishing to take part in the Sydney Super Cup.

Celtic are rumoured to have agreed a deal to take part in the tournament that would bring in the club a substantial financial sum, believed to be between £6m and £7m, whilst our city rivals have settled it is rumoured for less than half that amount.

You would assume due diligence on the part of the organisers and Celtic would mean any issues arising now should surely be manoeuvred around to allow the tournament to take place, particularly now the tickets are already on sale – however this is a strange development indeed and one that may require clarification from those organising the event.

If Celtic don’t understand why this it’s a terrible idea to have involved this lowlife in Ange’s Homecoming Tour then all they have to do is to look at the replies to Jason Pine’s tweet (below) and then ask do we really want to be associated with this sick minded individuals?  Warning – these comments are not for faint-hearted. A morally bankrupt, horrible, horrible, disgusting, bunch.

Hopefully they will pull out themselves and a more suitable alternative club invited.

As a Bellshill Bhoy I was taken to my first Celtic game in the summer of 1987. It was Billy McNeill’s return to Celtic Park as manager and Celtic lost 5-1 to Arsenal . I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.

If the tournament doesn’t go ahead because the huns spat the dummy out with getting paid less and being on the under card, then I would still like to see Celtic organise something in Australia & Japan. We’ll fill stadiums without the racists hanging on to our coattails, and would be perfect time to extend our fan base, what with most people not being able or want to go to Qatar & the World Cup.

Will be interested to see how it goes, but would like to see Celtic take advantage of this opportune moment.
