Anthony Joseph confirms Jota talks but nothing yet agreed

The Sky Sports reporter, Anthony Joseph has confirmed that talks between the Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ittihad and Jota have opened and that things are moving quickly.

It is believed that the Saudi club is willing to drop £25 million on the Portuguese winger, which while unfortunate that we won’t have Jota on the wing, it’s not all bad news

. If Jota does decide to leave Paradise and follow the big money, Celtic and Benfica are set to reap the rewards as they will get millions in profit. The 30% sell-on agreement between Celtic and Benfica ensures that the Hoops will see £13 million in profit, while Benfica see £12 million (which includes the original £6.5 million paid by Celtic last year for the winger).

However, while talks have now been confirmed and things are supposedly ‘moving quickly’, Anthony Joeseph from Sky Sports has confirmed that nothing has been agreed upon between either the clubs or player as of yet.

Whether Jota will choose to make the move is still unclear, but it seems that either way this is a win for Celtic. Although we may lose the services of Jota, £13 million net profit is excellent and could benefit Brendan Rodgers’ summer war chest.

On the other hand, if he chooses to stay, he will certainly be a valuable asset for the Hoops next season and could attract even more interest for a bigger future move. However with Jota having perhaps a once in a lifetime chance to earn £10m per year tax free you would think he’s going to want to go. Money talks and you can hardly blame him for wanting the move to happen.

  1. Any likelihood of this is pie in the sky. But no player who wants to move should be held back. But no player who wants to stay should be pushed out the door either, regardless of the money on offer.
We obviously want to keep Jota, the latest in a long line of hunskelpers. However, it isn’t a position we are struggling to fill.
We always knew we’d lose a couple of players this summer. It’s just a case of who.
Jota may or may not be one.

  2. This Saudi team must have more money than sense tbh. £25m seems like a lot of money for him….but that’s their problem. We should bite their hand off for the money.
