Neil Lennon on Celtic’s ‘long-shot’ chances of re-signing KT

The former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, has revealed his thoughts on the transfer rumours that are currently surrounding Arsenal’s full-back, Kieran Tierney.

Since Kieran Tierney’s big-money move from Celtic to join Arsenal in London, his playing time has been extremely limited. Spells of injury and competition for positions have kept Tierney out of the spotlight at Arsenal and severely limited his game time. Most notably, the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City proved to be an excellent signing for Arsenal.

Arriving only at the beginning of last season, he was a key part of Arsenal’s title race against Manchester City and became a fan favourite.

However, his dominance at the left-back position firmly displaced Tierney’s place in the squad. So, speculation has been growing that Tierney will exit Arsenal this Summer in order to get some more game time. Different clubs have been mentioned to have reportedly shown interest, with the main being Newcastle FC. However, there has been speculation that Tierney may return to his former club, and return home to Celtic.

Former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon has divulged his thoughts on this possible move to the DailyMail, revealing that he thinks this move is a ‘long-shot’. Lennon explained…

‘Whether Arsenal want to sell or loan him is another thing. There are a lot of variables that come into this. One other thing is that Kieran would need to weigh up whether it’s the right move for his career at this point in time.”

‘It’s interesting. I’m sure there will be interest in him not only from Premier League clubs but abroad as well. We have to be realistic about this. I think it’s a long shot.”

As we all know, Kieran Tierney is a fantastic player and deserves decent game time at the top level. Even in his recent appearances for Scotland, Tierney has put in excellent performances. However, whether a move back to Celtic is the best move for the Scotsman is up to him, but we would certainly be happy to welcome Tierney back to the club.

The Arsenal fan media page, JustArsenal, gave their opinion on Tierney by saying that he should remain at the club for the sake of ‘squad depth’. They said…

“It has been a tough year for Tierney and we would understand if he asks to leave, but we need him to stay for the sake of squad depth as we continue to strengthen our group.”

Kieran Tierney is a quality player that deserves far better than to sit on the bench for the sake of ‘squad depth’. Whether KT will be returning to Celtic is still unknown, but hopefully, he will get a move this summer to a club that values him as a powerful asset instead of a benchwarmer.
