Anthony Ralston signs new 4 year Celtic contract

Anthony Ralston has this afternoon put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep the right back at Celtic until ate least the summer of 2025.

The news has just broken on the official Celtic website after the club’s twitter account posted a cryptic message showing eyes looking through a hole in a wall, signally that the support should be looking out for some breaking good news.

Here’s what Celtic have said about Ralston’s new deal…

The 22-year-old defender, who first joined the club’s Youth Academy at the age of eight, has enjoyed an impressive start to this season under Ange Postecoglou, making 21 appearances and scoring four goals.

He made his first-team debut back in May 2016, coming on as a substitute in a game against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, having spent most of that 2015/16 season on loan at Queen’s Park.

He later had a short loan spell at Dundee United towards the end of the 2017/18 season, and then spent the next campaign at St Johnstone.

In the summer, he signed an extension with Celtic, but the new contract is a reflection of his contribution to the team this season.

Earlier today Tony Ralston was extremely unfortunate to be overlooked by the Scotland manager Steve Clarke who named his Scotland Squad and included a reserve from theRangers and a a Motherwell right-back in the squad but not the leading right back this season in the Cinch Premiership.

Here’s that stats to back that particular assertion up courtesy of the team at The Sellik, The Thunder podcast…

Huge credit for the transformation in Tony Ralston’s fortunes as a Celtic player must go to two men. Ange Postecoglou had enough decency about him to ignore almost everyone else and give Ralston his chance. Other players were in the same boat this summer but none grasped their chance the way Ralston did, and he’s the other man who deserves credit for taking his chance, proving almost everyone wrong and making himself a fans favourite.  Well done Tony, 100% deserved.

PS I’m the guy who wrote the article last December urging Neil Lennon to play Ralston at right back!
