Approach made: Celtic look to sign misfiring international striker from Premier League strugglers

In many ways it’s easy to look at a struggling striker and write them off, but sometimes it’s important to look at the club they play for.

West Ham have thrown so much money around in recent years and it looks like they sign players without putting any thought into how they would fit into the team.

Albian Ajeti is one of the latest to experience that, with the Swiss striker failing to find the net in his twelve appearances since moving to London.

Despite that, Sky Sports are reporting that Celtic have made an approach to West Ham to sign the striker, and it appears they are open to a loan move or a permanent switch.

A permanent signing could be tough when they point out that West Ham just paid £8m last summer, but it’s also possible that they would want to raise funds and cut their losses.

If you look into Ajeti’s history then there’s a lot to like, he’s a Swiss international who was prolific at Basel and St Gallen before moving to England.

It would be interesting to see if a move to Celtic would rejuvenate his career, and it’s interesting to note that he and Mohamed Elyounoussi both enjoyed a prolific season in 2017/18 when they played at Basel together.

The ideal scenario for Celtic would be a loan move with a reasonable option to buy. That way they can see if he’s able to recover from a disappointing season before committing to spending.
