A record-breaking £11 million transfer fee
Arne Engels arrived during the summer for a record-breaking £11 million transfer fee as the side had to try and replace the talent of Matt O’Riley, who departed Celtic Park for another record-breaking fee of £30 million.
The former FC Augsburg man has been a slow and steady progress in a hooped shirt, with inconsistency a prominent feature to his game in his first campaign in Scottish football. At only 21-year-old though, that is to be expected, and when the manager brought Engels in, he admitted that we were buying potential and that people should remember that.

‘We are seeing all the attributes he’s got’
He’s recently announced himself with massive performances both at home and abroad and Neil Lennon reckons that the slow burner is ready to blossom in a Celtic jersey. Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland ahead of the Aberdeen game last night, the ex-Celts manager said: “We are seeing all the attributes he’s got now. I felt early on in the season he was struggling with the tightness. You know, taking the ball in tight areas. Now we are really seeing him flourish.

‘I thought he was terrific tonight’
“I thought he was terrific tonight and great against Bayern Munich in both games. He had a little bit of a slow-burner obviously but now he’s really showing his quality. Not only running with the ball but his play in general. I thought he was terrific for the second goal. It was a long-bursting run and at the end of it, he still has the composure to play it back to Jota. His all round game is coming on. He’s a big player now for Celtic which you wouldn’t have said maybe two or three months ago.”
