Asking Price of £25million met but are Arsenal about to sign injured Celtic Star?

ARSENAL have made a record breaking £25million bid to Celtic for Kieran Tierney according to The Sun this morning. They then claim that ‘sources’ at Parkhead reckon that the move is now ‘inevitable’. The £25million fee will smash the transfer record for a player leaving Scottish football – the current record is the £20million that Celtic received from Lyon for Moussa Dembele last August.

If the story is true and that Unai Emery has finally got the message that the bidding starts at £25million for KT then it will trigger a previously agreed chain of events that could see the fans favourite leave Celtic – just as hopes were rising that he’d be staying.

It seems that Tierney is in no rush to leave Celtic but if the club accept the Arsenal bid then he will have to think about the move as a professional footballer rather than a Celtic supporter.

What is not clear is with the English Premier League transfer window closing on 5 August, how the currently injured Tierney is going to pass their medical. Or are Arsenal going to spend £25million on an injured player? Celtic didn’t do that when David Turnbull’s knee issue was discovered at his Manchester medical.

On Friday Neil Lennon revealed that Kieran is dealing with Osteitis pubis – an inflammation of the pubis symphysis joint that causes lower abdominal and pelvic pain.

“He’s still injured and he’s rehabbing,” the Celtic manager told the club’s Media Conference – the video was on The Celtic Star on Friday and again yesterday.

“He had a double hernia and he still has the Osteitis pubis problem so it’s a slow burner that one.”

The £25million transfer figure was also quoted last summer amid interest in KT from Everton and seems to dat back to the last contract extension he signed at Celtic. This meant that the player and his agents had to be kept informed if a bid came in at £25million or more and that would allow the player or the club to decide to proceed with the move.

That has allowed the agents to talk to any interested clubs and state the asking price that would trigger a transfer. If today’s story is true it looks like Arsenal have now read the small print and are for the first time in with a chance of signing KT.

The injury to KT might mean that this saga – if Arsenal have bid £25million – could drag on into August. And as the English spending hots up ahead of their window closing, that could result in one or two other top six clubs fancying a move for the the Celtic Star themselves – and that would suit Peter Lawwell perfectly.

Celtic’s interest in Nice left back Romain Perraud had died down over the last week and that looked like a consequence of the increasing possibility that Kieran Tierney would be staying.
