AZ Alkmaar await Celtic after Jablonec breeze – Ange’s toughest test yet

Celtic’s 7-2 win over FK Jablonec in front of 60,000 fine-voiced Hoops’ has resulted in Ange Postecoglou’s men facing Dutch giants AZ Alkmaar in the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League.

After the Kaaskoppen, which bizarrely translates to the Cheeseheads,  finished third in the Eredivisie last season – just one point behind eventual runners up PSV Eindhoven – it has fast-tracked them to the play-off round, where they will face the Bhoys’ side following their drubbing of the Czechia outfit.

Hopefully Celtic will leave the Cheeseheads feeling blue in a couple of weeks’ time.

A David Turnbull brace preceding a James Forrest tap-in secured a memorable night for Celtic, who played in front of a full stadium of fans for the first time since March 2020. ‘Glasgow’s Green and White’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ were the chants fans had missed most, but by far the funniest was the ‘Let’s all do the Malmo’ Poznan dance, following theRangers hilariously catastrophic 2-1 collapse on Tuesday night.

And fans are set to belt their hearts out in another European fixture in a weeks’ time, with AZ set to visit Glasgow on the 19th August and Celtic set to travel to Holland on the 26th August.

With two cup finals, Celtic can turn their awful start to the season around by making the Europa League group stage…here’s hoping they can produce another night like tonight, although it will be difficult.
