Bad news for Celtic as La Liga club threaten to rival them for £8m loan star

Celtic face an interesting problem when it comes to their big money signings just now.

It’s clear that the club can afford to throw some money around and we might see an increase in the amounts they spend in the transfer market, but everything needs to be right.

Spending £8m on a player is a massive deal for Celtic, while clubs from the “bigger” leagues can easily write that off if it doesn’t go well, so it can look like the Parkhead club are vulnerable to being hesitant.

That’s not to say the should be criticised – doing their due diligence on a new signing should be praised, but it will open the door for other teams to step in.

A report from Football Insider 247 has given the latest on the future of Mohamed Elyounoussi, and this could be a big blow if Celtic do want to keep him after this season.

They suggest that Spanish club Real Sociedad are now interested in him, with Southampton looking for a fee between £8m-10m to let him go.

Elyounoussi in action

There’s no doubt he’s shown he has the quality to justify the Celtic board sanctioning that kind of cash, but he’s been out injured for a while and that will be a concern.

He’s started to play again in the past couple of weeks so if he returns to his previous form then it could be a no-brainer, but a big injury followed by a failure to recapture that form might cause that interest to cool.
