Badge kisser – Robbie Keane reveals boyhood team despite claiming it was Celtic in 2010

ROBBIE KEANE has revealed the club he supported as a boy after years of speculation, fuelled by Keane himself claiming the team that he had signed for were always a team he liked. Along with six months at Celtic, Keane has had notable spells at Inter Milan, Tottenham and Liverpool in what has been a well travelled career.

When signing for Celtic in January 2010, the Ireland striker claimed he was a massive fan and couldn’t wait to get started with Tony Mowbray’s side.

“The club is massive.

“I am a Celtic fan and did not have to ask much about it.

“I always wanted to play for Celtic and it works for all parties.”

Despite this, Keane has revealed that his team were European Champions and English Champions in waiting, Liverpool when speaking to Sky Sports Football show.

“I just love football!

“I think it was clear to see that I was a Liverpool fan so I was very, very fortunate to have had the opportunity to have played with them.”

Even when Keane signed for the Anfield club, he declared himself to be a Liverpool fan.

“I would specifically like to thank chairman Daniel Levy for understanding, that, as a fan, joining Liverpool is a lifelong dream of mine and one I couldn’t let pass me by.”

However, you would be forgiven if you thought Keane was just a badge kisser as he said that with Celtic and then again, when Keane signed for LA Galaxy a year after his Celtic move, he proclaimed that move to be ‘a dream come true’.

“I have always wanted to come and play in MLS so it’s the perfect combination for me and a dream come true.”

However, back in 2014, Keane suggested that he supported both Celtic and Liverpool growing up.

Interviewer: “The big one ‘which team did you support as a boy?’ because there have been so many.”
Keane: “People forget in Ireland you support Celtic and that’s it. Then for me, it was Liverpool. That’s the norm over here.”

Either way, Keane was a good goalscorer in a poor spell for the club.
