Benkovic’s injury latest – out for 4 weeks, so his season is NOT over

FILIP BENKOVIC looks like missing around a month of action after picking up a leg injury in the 3-0 win over Hamilton at the weekend. The Celtic Star broke the story on Monday that the Croatian defender would be missing from tonight’s game at Celtic Park against St Johnstone – see HERE.

But yesterday morning one of the tabloids carried a much more worrying exclusive, suggesting that Benkovic’s season was over and that he would be heading back to Leicester City.

Celtic had already done their pre-match media conference for tonight’s game so there was little or no clarification on the situation yesterday.

On Radio Clyde’s Super Scoreboard last night though, The Scottish Sun’s Roger Hannah, started to move away from that position suggesting that the ‘worst case scenario’ would be that Benkovic would be out for the season an suggesting instead that he looks likely to miss around a month of football.

Celtic are still awaiting results of a scan on the injury and Brendan Rodgers is expected o give an update when he speaks to the BBC ahead of tonight’s game.

As we predicted on Monday Jozo Simunovic is set to partner Kristoffer Ajer in central defence this evening with Dedryck Boyata also still unavailable.

Celtic are likely to line-up this evening as we suggested on Monday.

Bain, Lustig, Izaguirre, Ajer, Simunovic, Brown, McGregor, Christie, Forrest, Sinclair and Burke…
