FABIO CAPELLO has sent Celtic an ominous message ahead of their Europa League visit to the San Siro tomorrow night. The former Milan and England manager reckons that I Rossoneri will be as strong as their form suggests without talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish striker is recovering from a hamstring tweak and it is unlikely that he will feature but Capello reckons that the Serie A league leaders will show no mercy.
As reported by the Scottish Sun, Capello reckons that Milan will win the Serie A title and that their impressive run won’t end anytime soon. Celtic play Milan at 17:55 tomorrow with Milan needing a win to qualify for the next round but Celtic are already out.
“AC Milan will win the Scudetto, there’s no doubt about it because they are the best team in Italy.
“What really impressed me about them was how well they adapted to playing without Ibrahimovic. What’s happened is that even without him, they have taken on his winning mentality.
“The team understands his great desire to win. A year ago, the same players showed fear, uncertainty and shyness. Now they show courage and determination. With or without Ibrahimovic on the pitch, they know what to do and they do it.
“I think the lack of fans has helped them. In the San Siro you could hear the mumbles and groans from the supporters. Now they are expressing themselves without fear and anxiety.
“They also have a great manager in Stefano Pioli. He’s shown at Lazio and Fiorentina he is a coach with great ideas, but he needed time and trust and Milan have given him that.
“They are a great team and I don’t think their run will end soon.”
Celtic have won just twice in ten games, an astonishingly poor stat and Neil Lennon has faced calls to resign following the dismal run. However, Peter Lawwell confirmed that the club were committed to turning the season around and indirectly gave Lennon his backing.
The game on Thursday is a dead rubber but Celtic pride is at stake. The players need to prove that they are up for the fight and playing for the manager.
