‘He’s good enough’, Liverpool legend backs Lennon to succeed

JOHN BARNES has backed Neil Lennon to turn Celtic’s fortunes around and win 10IAR. The former Celtic manager says that the Irishman is ‘good enough’ to rescue what has been a poor season so far and overturn the eleven point gap between the Scottish Champions and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the Liverpool legend said that previous successes matter little in Glasgow and that teams will be judged by their last few results.

“That’s just the nature of football, that’s how fans can be from one minute to the next.

“So nine in a row counts for nothing if you’re now 11 points behind Rangers and not playing well, although Celtic have only played 13 league games.

“Football fans are like that, generally. I’ve heard Liverpool supporters complain when we don’t play particularly well.

“After everything Jurgen Klopp has done, how can you criticise him over any decision he’s taken and any results?”

Barnes lost his job after a cup defeat to Highland opponents and sympathises with Lennon but says that this synonymous with football fans everywhere – including Liverpool. However, he has tipped Celtic to go on a run and win the league – proving the sizeable critics wrong.

“In Scotland, and with Celtic in particular, they can win the next game and easily go on a ten-match winning streak.

“Lennon has a lot of experience and he’s good enough.

“His players are good enough to go on an unbeaten run of ten, even 20, games.

“Yes, it’s a question of how long this bad run continues.

“But if they can win their next few league games, and get the wind behind them, I’m sure they will not only win those next few games, but also the Premiership.”

The Scottish Champions have 2 wins in 10 games, an incredibly poor return but more alarmingly, the performances have been totally abject. Celtic have seemingly forgotten how to defend and attack, leaving themselves open to losing goals against weaker teams. There’s an absence of the swagger from seasons gone by and the team look totally devoid of ideas, sideways passing in the hope that something will happen.

The players can prove that they are out there for the manager in one way only – on the pitch.
