Me and My Big Mouth, the words Kris Boyd should utter this evening

LEWIS MORGAN joined his manager in hitting back at Kilmarnock’s Rangers cheerleader Kris Boyd at yesterday’s Celtic press conference ahead of tonight’s trip to Perth to face St Johnstone in the Quarter final of the Betfred Cup.

The Celtic star’s comments were recorded by the Bhoys at 90 Minute Cynic and you can listen below.

Now the winger, who returned to the team at the weekend as a second half substitute and looked lively in what was a disappointing Celtic performance, has told the veteran Killie substitute that he is wrong about the Celtic dressing room.

“That’s someone outwith the club who wouldn’t have any knowledge of what’s going on inside the building.

“It’s definitely not true. We’ve got a really close-knit team,” Morgan stated.

“You can only look at what we’ve achieved over the last couple of years. That doesn’t come without a close team. All the boys are close and together.

“It shows the level of expectation at this club after the last couple of years that, after losing two games, people say things. Everyone gets on with each other. It’s nonsense.

“I’ve been here for a few months now, so I have settled in and the changing room is the way that everyone is welcoming and everyone talks to each other. There are no egos or anything like that. It was a really easy changing room to walk into.”

What was said within the dressing room by players and management after the defeat at Rugby Park is private and should remain private.

“The words were said were behind closed doors,” Morgan stated.

“We know we are good players. We need to tell ourselves that and get back to where we have been at and that is what we are trying to do.”

The former St Mirren winger is quickly gaining a true sense of what it means to play for Celtic and on the demands that are placed on the players to deliver on a regular basis – that’s week in and week out.

“Different clubs have different expectations,” he noted. “At Celtic, you are expected to win every game. That is one of the reasons I came here.

“There is always going to be scrutiny of Celtic players because of the expectations but all the boys here can deal with that.

“For whatever reason, it has maybe not clicked at the moment. But we’re working hard. We’re all united and trying to pull in the one direction.

“We know we have quality and we are working hard to get results. I’m sure with the coaching staff and the players we have we will get it right.”

Morgan is likely to feature at some point this evening as Celtic look to join Aberdeen in the last four and in doing so get back to Hampden.

Brendan Rodgers has enjoyed a 100% winning record on Cup competitions in Scotland and will be looking to continue that run tonight.

St Johnstone are likely to see a very different kind of Celtic performance tonight and if he’s watching some goals fly in on the telly, Kris Boyd would be justified in saying to himself, “me and my big mouth”…
