Birmingham City lead race to sign Celtic winger in January window

Birmingham City are understood to be preparing a fresh approach for Yang in the January transfer window, though any renewed move is expected to face competition from two rival clubs…

The Celtic wide man came close to completing a £3 million switch to the Championship outfit at the end of the summer transfer window, only for negotiations to collapse late in the process.

With Brendan Rodgers unable to secure his preferred attacking additions and options such as Michel Ange-Balikwisha failing to make an immediate impact, Yang has remained involved in the first-team picture at Celtic.

The South Korean has featured prominently under Wilfried Nancy, starting three of the new manager’s four matches, albeit in the less familiar role of right wing-back.

Reports suggest Birmingham are now considering a January bid, while Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has also named Norwich City and Preston North End as clubs monitoring the situation.

Norwich, who were also credited with interest during the summer, are now led by former Ibrox manager Philippe Clement.

Taking to X, Joseph reported:

“Birmingham City and Norwich City have renewed their interest in Celtic winger Hyun-jun Yang. It’s understood Preston North End are also keen admirers. The 23 year old was close to joining BCFC for £3m on transfer deadline day in September but the deal collapsed late on.”

In other news, Luke McCowan has called on his teammates to recover following a fourth consecutive defeat on Wednesday evening.

“It’s so hard, I’ll be honest,” the Celtic midfielder said as reported by Daily Record. “Every single mate I’ve got and every member of family, I probably don’t even speak to them now because I don’t actually know what to say when football is your life and Celtic is your life.”

“It’s so hard to escape, but it’s just about reacting well. It’s so hard to even like put any words into it but you just keep going. It’s so hard and not many players in that dressing room have gone through this. Even myself being at previous clubs, I’ve probably not went through stuff like this.”

“We just need to get behind each other and back each other till we can’t anymore.”
