Bitton’s Birthday, Now Sign Him Up

Happy Birthday to Celtic’s Number Six, Nir Bitton. The versatile Israeli turns 28 today and will be hoping that St Mirren’s trip to Celtic Park will give him the added birthday present of three points.

Having signed in 2013 from FC Ashdod, Bitton has been a permanent fixture in and around the Celtic squad since moving to Scotland.

In recent seasons, Bitton has been utilised more as a central defender due to his eye for a pass and aerial ability.

His versatility is vital to being an important squad player, ready to step up when he needs to. This was exemplified at Ibrox when for the best part of an hour, Bitton dominated with Jullien at the centre of the impenetrable defence that day. Sadly for Bitton, he injured himself preventing a corner in the 2-0 win at Ibrox and was forced off.

Bitton’s contract expires this summer and Celtic must avoid a repeat of Mikael Lustig and get the versatile Israeli tied down for the abilities he brings, as well as the cover to key positions that he would bring.

In September, it was suggested that new talks would come for Bitton, who has impressed Neil Lennon, so hopefully it is a matter of time before the deal is completed.
