Blow for Celtic as Jesse Marsch emerges as favourite for Leipzig job

Jesse Marsch is reportedly being lined up as the successor to Julien Nagelsmann, should the RB Leipzig coach leave in the summer. The Salzburg boss served as Assistant to Ralf Rangnick between 2018 and 2019 and is highly regarded within the Bundesliga side’s hierarchy and his efforts with their sister club, Salzburg, aren’t going unnoticed.

According to BILD, the Celtic managerial target is sought after by the Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff should Nagelsmann continue his emphatic rise to the top of football. Marsch is an impressive candidate and he appears interested in Celtic, speaking very highly of the interest but given his relationship with Red Bull Football, he will likely know what is required of him at Leipzig, as well as having an inside track of how the club operates.

Marsch is a German speaker and is one of the favourites to replace Rose at Borussia Monchengladbach, when his predecessor at RB Salzburg leaves for Dortmund. However, Nagelsmann has also been linked with a move away from RB Leipzig with Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Real Madrid and Barcelona all mentioned as being interested in the up-and-coming coach.

Celtic should sound Marsch out and try and get in ahead of the competition, giving him a decision to make. The worst he can say is no and if that is expected, there is no harm in going to him and asking if he would like the opportunity to ply his trade in Scotland.
